While sole-searching around town, TREAZURES stumbled upon a trail of shoes with drastically distinctive styles of their own.
Ask any woman and you’ll discover that many will confess to owning
more than five pairs of shoes in their closet. And even while these shoes are still brand new, having only been worn during special occasions, these ladies will casually continue with their shoe shopping adventures to add yet another pair to their growing collection.
So what is it about shoes that make women go crazy over finding the perfect pair? Shoes were created very early in the course of human civilisation as means of protecting the feet. Sandals made of plaited papyrus leaves were the earliest and most common footwear.
Another is a soft shoe, made of wraparound leather similar to the moccasin. Amazingly, these pairs actually had no difference between the left and right shoe.
More so in the past, shoes revealed the economic and social status as well as the personality of the wearer. One could easily tell between the poor and the Royalty by catching a glimpse of the shoes they have on.
Different cultures created different types of shoes to fit into their preferences and beliefs. Having narrow, small feet was the ideal beauty. Wanting to fit in, some regularly wore shoes that were one size too small. Women in China even had their feet bound since they were small children to ensure the growth (or rather the lack of) dainty, small feet.
Shopping for Shoes
From platforms, stilettos, ballerina flats, Mary Janes and wedges to sneakers and loafers, the range of shoes available in the market certainly leaves the discerning shoe shopper spoilt for choice. Walking past shoe boutiques, one can’t help but notice the hustle and bustle of countless ladies keeping the sales assistants busy with their demands for wanting to try various shoe sizes and designs.
Shoe shopping is quite different from clothes shopping; simply because it’s easier to just slip your feet into a pair instead of queuing up to try the garments in a fitting room. Thus, anyone can easily snap up a few pairs in just a couple of quick minutes!
Many do not realise that shoes play a very important role in complementing an outfit. Imagine if you were wearing the sexiest cocktail evening gown, but only to have on an old pair of slipper flats. This will certainly cancel out your original intentions of choosing to wear a beautiful dress!
Alternatively, even if you were just wearing a casual outfit of shorts and teeshirt, an outstanding pair of high heels will instantly add glamour to your appearance. However, searching for a good-looking pair of shoes that does not subject your feet to torture is an endless journey that many will have to wade through.
High heels especially, are rarely ever a comfortable pick. But as society has it, every lady must own at least one pair of high heels in their shoe closet. After all, they are one of those few things that keep women rooted in the realms of femininity.
Sometimes we buy a pair because they’re pretty; sometimes because they’re cheap. We often go for what looks good rather than what’s comfortable. Is it possible to come across a pair that combines the best of both worlds?

Angel Therapy
Embark on this journey with Lee Mei Li, as she discovers the enchanting secret to achieving clarity within the body, mind and soul.
Take a look around you. As we all chase after the materialistic things
of this world, we often forget to live a life that we love. It’s easy to forget, because we’re too busy focusing on our families, careers, relationships and financial gains.
If we put our minds to it, inner peace is not so hard to find. We just have to take a little time off to clear our thoughts and reflect on our emotions and actions. Of course, we sometimes need a little guidance for inspiration.
A Gift From Above
Barely noticeable in a tranquil corner of Centrepoint, Angel Cast’er is a specialty shop that offers a refreshing change of scenery to those that have yet to believe in the magical powers of destiny. As you waltz in through the glass doors, you will notice that your mood has changed, as if you had walked into a different world altogether.
A family business managed by Charmaine Lian and sister-in-law Sharon Teo, Angel Cast’er is at first glance home to a wide range of inspirational gifts and tools imported from the U.S, Canada, Australia and South Africa. The colourcoded shelves at the front half of the outlet offer crystals, essential oils, oracle cards, candles, sun catchers and even “space” cleansing sprays.
As you walk deeper in to explore, you will come across a quaint Health Café, complete with bar-top stools and a huge billboard menu propped up on the wall to let you select from endearing brews such
as the Dolphin’s Smile, Blue Mermaid and Slender Goddess. A library of books and soft, fairytale music playing from the selection of New Age CDs at one corner transforms the mini “health bar” into a soothing spot to chill at, whether you’re 14 or 40.
To add to this dreamy atmosphere, Angel Cast’er is more than just your usual shop off the block. They also specialise in Holistic Therapies, consultations and workshops catering to interests in Aromatherapy, Colour Therapy, Crystal Therapy, Flower Therapy, Tarot Reading and Reiki.
“Our healing methods are not meant to replace medicine. They are more complementary, an alternative therapy that you or I can go to when we feel the need for it,” says Teo, managing director of the shop. This form of healing reaches out on a more emotional level and is something that one has to experience in order to believe in it.
