  Xandria Ooi

TV Host, emcee and journalist Xandria Ooi took a break from her busy schedule to tell us how she’s coping with fame.

TZ
:
How has the entertainment business changed you?
Xandria:
:
It has made me more responsible and better with time management! Honestly, it has forced me to be proactive and always thinking two steps ahead, because I am managing, marketing and branding myself.

TZ
:
What have you learned from it?
Xandria
:
Many, many things. But the most wonderful lesson is discovering that there are no limits to what I can do as long as I believe I can do it. If a job comes in and it is something I’ve never done before, I will give it a go and come away with a feeling that I’ve achieved something I never thought I could.

TZ
:
What have you learned from it?
Xandria
:
The main one is being able to have the best of all worlds. In journalism, I meet the most interesting people and explore ideas that I never would have otherwise. In hosting and emceeing, I am part of the fashion industry, food industry and corporate industry all in one, because of the events I attend and the clients I work for. And of course, the occasional freebie is fantastic too! My favourite so far is an Aqualtis washing machine from Ariston and a brand new O2 Atom Life PDA phone courtesy of O2!

TZ
:
Does this industry live up to the glamorous image of how the public perceive it to be?
Xandria
:
Yes and no. It can be glamorous in the sense that the people LOOK glamorous. It is nice to dress up and look good, and looking good is a necessary part of being in the entertainment industry. It isn’t glamorous however, when we’re actually working. You’ve used the right word there – ‘image’. It is more glamorous than other industries simply because people expect it to be.

TZ
:
How do you keep up with the fast-paced lifestyle?
Xandria
:
I go to my family and friends to keep me sane.

TZ
:
Who do you most admire?
Xandria
:
My mother and manager, Susan Ooi and my former producer, Angeline Chong. Both have the ability to bring the best out of people and even when they have to point a mistake out, they do it in such a way that they never put anyone down.

TZ
:
What do you hope to achieve in the near future?
Xandria
:
A better sense of self, awareness, humility and compassion. I believe that a person’s success is measured by who he or she is. As long as we sleep with a clear conscience at night, we will somehow or rather, be successful in life.

TZ : What is your motto in life?
Xandria
:
I have two!
1. It never hurts to ask. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
2. It is better to catch flies with honey.

Each of them were treated to goodie bags worth over RM1000, filled with healthcare products including supplements, organic food, skincare items, gift certificates and even a yoga mat. Participants could also sign up for complimentary Treazures Friendz privilege cards, which offered exclusive discounts on books, food, skincare and more from participating brands and outlets as well as special privileges from the magazine and other sponsors.

The workshop centred on four interactive health and fitness sessions by professionals in their respective fields. Besides this, the health showcase, consisting of 10 booths from different vendors, offered eye tests and special discounts and offers on selected products and services.

As Treazures magazines were circulated to the audience, the first session of the morning began with the “Benefits of Eating Organic”, conducted by Mah Shook Ying from Highland Agro who is an organic agricultural consultant with over 35 years of experience in agricultural research. Having previously worked with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Mah carried out an informative talk on the difference between organic and nonorganic food and convinced the audience with her in-depth research articles on why organic food is the healthier choice to eating.

Then two lucky individuals were picked for the first round of Lucky Draw Prizes, walking away with a bag of vegetables fresh from the organic farm of Bandar Harapan, an organisation that sets out to help the disadvantaged community of physically disabled persons and single parents by training them to be self-sufficient through training and exposure on farm management. The rest of the participants were able to visit their booth and purchase fresh pumpkins, long beans, brinjals and various types of herbs.

Next up was an exciting hands-on yoga session with Celebrity Fitness’ International Fitness Instructor Harrison Jub. Amidst the soothing yoga music, participants rolled out their brand new yoga mats from Fitness Concept and followed Jub’s instructions on basic yoga stretches and proper breathing techniques. This session allowed individuals new to yoga relax and discover the tranquil properties of this form of exercise.

The second round of Lucky Draw gave away Celebrity Fitness gym bags, caps and an Adidas pouch to five participants, while three more delighted participants were each given the grand prize of a 3-month gym membership worth RM800 at the fitness club.

The crowd was then treated to a sumptuous spread of One World Hotel’s morning tea break to regain their energy for the rest of the morning. Many took this time to visit the health showcase booths available – Blackmores, Celebrity Fitness, The Body Shop, Bandar Harapan, Charita, Honeywell, My Secret Garden, Okamizu, Optimax and Vitis – where they obtained personal consultations from the experts on health supplements, skin and bodycare products, air purification systems, garden landscaping services, food detoxifiers, eye-care and grape seed oil products offered at rates exclusive to the workshop.

The workshop resumed with a calming session on “Aromatherapy” with The Body Shop’s Penny Lai, who has over 7 years of experience in the beauty and wellness industry. Participants were allowed to sample the aromatherapy range from the The Body Shop, as Lai explained the benefits of essential oils that work to naturally enhance one’s overall wellbeing. At the end of the session, three lucky participants walked away with The Body Shop gift sets worth RM100 each.

The final session on “Nutritional Wellness” was carried out by Monitar Tan from Blackmores, a certified Naturopath who had returned from Melbourne, Australia recently. Sharing tips on how to recharge a stressed body and mind, Tan concluded the session with a round of games, letting participants join in on the fun and win prizes. After that, six excited participants returned home with a Blackmores bag filled with health supplements worth over RM400 each.
